It is with great regret that we announce the loss of one of our brother officers and a great gang investigator, Dallas PD Senior Corporal Norman S. Smith #6612.  Senior Corporal Smith was killed in the line of duty on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 while executing  a high risk warrant.  Senior Corporal Smith was one of the two 2006 Texas Gang Investigators Association Officers of the Year.  He will be greatly missed by all of us and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

Funeral services for Senior Corporal Norman S. Smith, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2009.  The service will be conducted at The Potter's House, 6777 W. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, Texas  75236, with burial services following at the Garden of Honor at Restland Memorial Cemetery at 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, Texas  75243 (corner of Greenville Avenue and Restland Road).

The Honor Flag will be raised at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters on Thursday, January 8^th, beginning at 3:00 p.m.  There will be a candle light vigil beginning at 7:30 p .m. at headquarters later the same day.  There is also an open visitation at Restland on Thursday from 12 Noon to 8:30 p.m.

For anyone wanting to place an item as a memorial, Senior Corporal Smith's patrol vehicle is currently parked in front of Headquarters and will be there at least through Friday.
